What Is an Unknown Caller?

The term “unknown caller” refers to someone who isn’t on your Contacts list. Contacts stored on your iPhone can get access through the Phone or Contacts apps. You won’t be considered an “unknown caller” if a number calls you back if you have called them recently.

It might seem like a good idea to call back and find out who it was, but that is the last thing you should do. You might assume it is okay to call back because the number is in your area code. Alternatively, if you want a number not to be considered “unknown” (and thus not be silenced), you’ll need to add it to your iPhone’s contacts list.

How to Silence Spam Calls From Unknown Callers on iPhone

Open the Settings app on your iPhone to silence spam calls. Tap the gray gear icon on your iPhone’s home screen to launch it.

Scroll down to “Phone” in Settings.

Tap “Silence Unknown Callers” in Phone settings.

One can turn on Silence Unknown Callers by flipping the switch beside it.

You won’t hear a ring or a notification sound the next time you receive a call from an unknown number. Calls sent to voicemail, and they will appear in the recent calls section of the Phone app. If the caller leaves a voicemail, you may still receive a notification.

Open Settings, navigate to Phone> Silence Unknown Callers, and toggle the switch to “Off” if you expect an important call from an unknown number in the future. Incoming calls not silenced. Good luck!
