Make your post public or private.

It is possible to make your entire Twitter account public or private. Your profile and your tweets can be seen by anyone, even if they don’t have a Twitter account. You can follow other Twitter users or reply to their tweets.

Only followers you specifically approve will be able to see your tweets when you choose a protected Twitter account. Here’s more information on public and private tweets.

Changing account settings can be done by clicking the three dots on Twitter’s left-hand navigation pane, followed by Settings and Privacy, Your account, Account information, and Protected Tweets.

Open or close Direct Messages.

The direct messaging (DM) feature on Twitter enables people to contact you directly. They work regardless of whether you have a protected account, and by default, anyone who follows you can DM you.

It translates into anyone who follows you being able to message you. The quickest way to let anyone message you on Twitter is to log into the settings page and click Privacy and safety, then Direct Messages, and then check the Allow message requests from anyone box. You can find out more about how to do this here.

Even if this option is enabled, you have to accept messages from people who you’re not following before you can respond to them. You can view messages and notifications on the official website.

It becomes harder to find

People on Twitter can be found in many ways. When a person loads up the Twitter app, they will, by default, see you as a contact suggestion if they have your email address or your cell number on their phone.

You can prevent this from happening on the web by choosing Privacy and safety, then Discoverability and contacts from the settings page. If your email address and phone number are available, do not check the box labelled Let people with your email address find you on Twitter.

Limit the number of replies you receive.

A third restriction you can set up is restricting which Twitter users can reply to your tweets. Whenever you click the blue button on the left of the new tweet dialogue, you’ll find a link to reply that everyone can utilize.

Changing the restriction to Only people you mention or People you follow through this link will accomplish the task. No one can respond to a tweet that doesn’t mention another Twitter user. Use the latter option if you don’t say anyone else. You can click the three dots next to a tweet to change this setting after publication in the timeline.
