With the new update process, customers can download software to a USB drive, visit a dealer, or upgrade over the air via WiFi. Ford is making this its first Wi-Fi-enabled software update. The automaker encourages drivers to use it instead of existing methods of upgrading.

SYNC 3 version 2.2 has supported Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in Ford vehicles since model-year 2016. To update this version, customers need to download the new software update.

Android Auto

Apple CarPlay

All iOS 7.1 and later iPhone models are compatible with Apple CarPlay.
